Tom Slonaker, ousted from his trust reform oversight role at the Department of Interior, feels vindicated with yesterday's decision holding the Bush administration in contempt of court.

Slonaker also told The Arizona Republic that he is "saddened for the Indian trust beneficiaries who have been struggling for so long to get what is owed to them. I wish we were much further along."

Slonaker was the Special Trustee for American Indians. He was removed from his position in July after criticizing Secretary Gale Norton's claims of progress.

Slonaker testified in the contempt trial for the Indian plaintiffs.
