The Senate Indian Affairs Committee will hold a hearing today on the federal recognition process.

Testifying for the Bureau of Indian Affairs will be Deputy Assistant Secretary Aurene Martin. She is filling in for Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb, who is hosting an economic development summit with Secretary Gale Norton.

Two panels include officials and politicians from the state of Connecticut. They have been critical of the recognition decisions made in favor of the Eastern Pequot Tribe.

Eastern Pequot Chairwoman Marcia Flowers and Cecile Maxwell-Hansen, chair of the Duwamish Tribe of Washington, round out the witness list.

The hearing begins at 10 a.m. EDT. A live audio feed is available at http://indian.senate.gov
