Haskell students want delay on highway

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2002

An organization of Haskell Indian Nations University students, alumni and supporters wants more time to review complex environmental studies on a proposed highway expansion in Kansas.

The Wetlands Preservation Organization asked the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for a three-month extension on a public comment period. The group is concerned that one option for the highway would damage wetlands where past Haskell students were buried.

In related Haskell highway news, a decision to transfer a portion of 31st Street back to the school has been delayed by a local county.
