"The tribal council of the Soboba Tribe of Luiseno Indians, on whose land the motocross facility is built, voted late last week to close the park immediately. Tribal chairman Robert Salgado said concerns about dust control, sanitation and water were among the factors leading to the decision.

However, Malcolm McCassy and Jim Facciuto, who opened the park this summer after closing the old Competition Park at Ramona Boulevard and Sanderson Avenue, plan to stay open and host the Motocross des Nations as planned. They say they have a valid management contract to operate the park on land allotted to Ernie Salgado, Robert's brother, and allege the vote is a byproduct of a family feud.

Whether or not the management contract is valid may be irrelevant, though, since one person familiar with the situation said that while the land may be allotted to Ernie Salgado, he still must abide by the decisions of the tribal council. . ."
