Two different Lumbee tribal organizations in North Carolina have received federal grants to start credit unions.

The Lumbee Tribal Council received a $70,200 Native American Technical Assistance grant. The Lumbee Regional Development Association received $87,250 from the same program.

The tribal council plans to use the money only for tribal members. The association says it will be open to everyone.

The grant is offered by the Department of Treasury.
