MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9, 2002

Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colo.), Northern Cheyenne tribal member, visited AIDS victims in Africa with a contingent of Senate Democrats during the August recess.

The Denver Post reports Campbell's thoughts on AIDS: "All I know it's not a gay problem. It's not an African problem. It's a world problem for everybody."

Campbell also tells the paper he was moved to tears throughout the trip. "When you went into those orphanages it wasn't one or two children. It was hundreds."
