FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2002

"I can already hear what some Winnipeggers would say if aboriginal mayoralty candidate Chris Henderson, 30, got elected this fall:

"Oh great. First a gay mayor, now an aboriginal mayor. Next it'll be a lesbian aboriginal mayor, and when that happens, I'm outta, here."

Yeah well, good riddance, Charlie.

I can remember when the idea of electing a gay mayor, or especially in this burg -- an aboriginal mayor -- would have shaken this city to its roots.

And that of course, is as it should be. . ."
