The Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indian was federally recognized in 1988 and has grown to economic success in a few short years.

The tribe has 504 members who live in the upper Michigan peninsula. A casino and other economic development projects have brought wealth.

The tribe doesn't want to stop though and is fighting the city of Detroit to open a casino there. A federal appeals court sided in the tribe's favor but a federal judge later said there was no remedy.

The tribe is back in court to fight for a chance to host a casino.
