Obituary: Claplanhoo 100 Makah elder

THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 2002 Ruth E. Claplanhoo, a 100-year-old member of the Makah Nation of Washington, died at her home on the reservation on Monday. Claplanhoo was one of the few surviving elders who was raised speaking the Makah language. She was well versed in tribal tradition, culture and history. Claplanhoo's sister, Isabell Ides, died last year at age 101. Get the Story:
