Questions remain on fatal shooting

THURSDAY, AUGUST 22, 2002

Police in Alaska have completed their investigation into the fatal shooting of an Alaska Native executive.

But they will probably never know the exact reason why former Karen Brand killed former police official Glenn Godfrey and shot wife Patti Godfrey. Brand then turned the gun on herself.

Patti Godfrey has been recovering from surgery and has been able to talk to investigators. She said the couple saw Brand at least twice on August 2, the day before the shooting.

Godfrey was the first Alaska Native to head the state troopers. He then became the state's first public safety commissioner. He left the post this summer to work full-time for an Alaska Native corporation.
