The Lummi Nation of Washington is sending a 13-foot totem pole to New York to mark the anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The tribe hopes the totem will help heal children who lost family in the World Trade Center tragedy. Jewell Praying Wolf James oversaw the carving.

The pole features an eagle at the top, to represent fathers and male victims. In the middle is a female bear, which represents the mothers and the female victims. At the bottom is the bear cub, which represents the children who lost family members and friends.
