Ute leader pleads guilty to alcohol charge

WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 7, 2002 The chairman of the Southern Ute Tribe of Colorado faces sentencing next week for driving under the influence of alcohol. Leonard C. Burch pleaded guilty after being found passed out behind the wheel of his pickup truck on the reservation. He faces up to a year in jail and a $5,000 fine, which could impact his duties as chairman and as chief executive officer of the tribe. Get the Story:
