Cancer hits Alaska Natives hard

TUESDAY, AUGUST 6, 2002 Alaska Natives have a 30 percent higher risk of dying from all cancers than whites, according to two recent reports. Cancer used to be rare among Alaska Natives fifty years ago but has now surpassed other diseases to be the leading killer. Lung, colorectal and breast cancer are the top three cancers detected among Alaska Natives between 1984 and 1998. Get the Story:
