Minn. tribe seeks federal recognition

FRIDAY, AUGUST 2, 2002 The Mendota Mdewakanton Dakota Tribe of Minnesota is seeking federal recognition. The tribe's 280 adult members cite descent frpm Dakota ancestors who lived in the Mendota area since the 1700s. The tribe has been researching its petition since 1994. Get the Story:
