THURSDAY, AUGUST 1, 2002

Sandia Pueblo Gov. Stuwart Paisano wants the Senate to consider changing a bill to settle a claim to 10,000 acres in the Sandia Mountains in New Mexico.

Paisano said the modifications affect only the tribe's interests. The Senate Indian Affairs Committee could consider his amendments.

The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee passed the bill with only a minor amendment to ensure access for fire control.
