WEDNESDAY, JULY 31, 2002 "Someone's history within Oklahoma has been ignored. Having read the book "Rifles for Watie" as a child -- the first book I'd read about Oklahoma's early history -- I realized that one of the missing flags must be the flag carried by Stand Watie's troops during the Civil War. The flag had a blue union with three bars. Within the union there were 11 stars in a circle, and within those stars there were five red stars representing the Five Civilized Tribes of the Indian Territory. In the white portion of the banner were the words "Cherokee Braves" in red. Why can't this flag be flown at the Capitol in memory of these Native Americans who served in the Civil War?"
