The Sioux Falls Argus Leader in an editorial today criticizes the Army Corps of Engineers for scheduling a meeting on an important tribal ceremony day.

The paper says if the Corps bothered to talk to the Yankton Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, there wouldn't have been a problem. "When you schedule a meeting - important as this or not - and expect other people to be there, it's only common sense and common courtesy to check for conflicts," the paper writes.

The Corps was recently found by a federal judge to be in violation of the Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act. Work on a site near the reservation has been halted pending a lawsuit seeking return of human remains and artifacts.
