N.M. court upholds Indian prosecution

The New Mexico Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled that federal land located near a Navajo Nation chapter house is not Indian Country.

The court said the area was not a "dependent Indian community." The decision upheld the prosecution of a Navajo tribal member who was convicted of killing six people in a car crash near the Nageezi chapter house.
