THURSDAY, JULY 25, 2002 The Senate Appropriations Committee on Wednesday approved $1 million to help prepare for the residents of Shishmaref, a Native village in Alaska, to relocate. Shishmaref has been losing ground due to an eroding Chukchi Sea. Residents voted overwhelmingly last weekend to move. The money would be used for an environmental impact study.
