Editorial: Support tribe's proposal

WEDNESDAY, JULY 24, 2002 The Lincoln Journal Star in an editorial supports the Winnebago Tribe's proposal to take over environmental enforcement on its Nebraska reservation. The paper says local fears that the tribe will start telling non-Indian farmers what to do are unfounded. "Local control means faster response, more sensitivity to local conditions and a shorter bureaucratic chain of command," the paper writes. The tribe is proposing to handle agricultural chemical enforcement. Four upcoming meetings will be held to discuss the idea. Get the Story:
