MONDAY, JULY 22, 2002 Four churches on the Cherokee Reservation in North Carolina are planning to apologize for not recognizing Native beliefs. The apology will take place September 21, or the Day of Healing and Reconciliation. The Cherokee United Methodist Church, Living Waters Lutheran Church, Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and Cherokee Church of the Nazarene will participate. Eastern Band of Cherokee Chief Leon Jones and other tribal officials don't feel there is a need to apologize. Neither do Baptist church leaders. Get the Story:
