Alaska glaciers quickly melting

FRIDAY, JULY 19, 2002 Research appearing in today's issue of Science reports that glaciers in Alaska are melting at a twice the rate than expected. During the past five to seven years, glaciers have thinned an average of six feet a year, according to the University of Alaska in Fairbanks. This is double that of melting recorded during the mid-1950s to the mid-1990s. Get the Story:
