FRIDAY, JUNE 28, 2002

A joint House-Senate conference committee on an energy bill has already run into some heavy debate, thanks to Rep. Don Young (R-Alaska).

Young threatened to cut off a provision to increase ethanol usage. He said he wanted drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in exchange.

The House version of the bill allows oil and gas exploration in the refuge but the Senate version does not.
