Editorial: Fix casino fund formula

The Norwich Bulletin in an editorial today says any future tribal casino deals should include more money for local communities in Connecticut.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and the Mohegan Tribe each contribute 25 percent of slot machine revenues to the state. The state then distributes the money to 169 municipalities based on a complex formula that includes need.

The paper says the formula is unfair because it limits the amount of money that goes to communities directly impacted by casinos. Future gaming compacts should fix this problem, according to the paper.
