The Ponca Tribe and a labor union have put a chemical company on notice for alleged violations of state and federal environmental law.

The tribe and the Paper, Allied-Industrial, Chemical and Energy Workers International Union (PACE) claim Continental Carbon and its parent companies are polluting the area. A carbon black manufacturing plant is located next to Ponca lands.

"Government officials would never tolerate this same pollution in their own communities," said Ron Sherron, director of the Ponca Tribe's Office of Environmental Management, in a press release.

The state has cited Continental Carbon for numerous violations.
