Exxon wants oil spill award reduced
THURSDAY, JUNE 13, 2002

Exxon Mobil Corp. has lowered the amount of damages it wants to pay to Alaska Natives, fishermen, land owners and others affected by the Exxon Valdez oil spill in 1989.

The company wants to pay $25 million but no more than $40 million. A federal court had ordered a $5 billion payment but the award was reduced by the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
