An effort to bring electricity to 111 homes on the Navajo Reservation in New Mexico kicked off this week.

The Navajo Nation was awarded a $2.8 million grant to bring power to the Shiprock area. The goal is to finalize work by September 13.

Throughout the reservation, an estimated 18,000 homes are without electricity. A total of $15 million over five year period will be provided.
