"I have a great idea on how we can diversify our economy out here in village Alaska.

Have you ever seen our high school basketball players in the villages? If they were between 6-foot-1 and 7 feet tall, they would definitely get attention from major colleges and possibly the National Basketball Association.

One of my ideas is to match one of our kids with a 6-foot-5 or taller person and have them marry. After they marry, they will have some kids that can reach astronomical heights.

These tall Yup'iks could be offered college scholarships and eventually get offers of millions of dollars to play in the NBA. If we can get village cooperation and assign certain families to seek possible candidates for one of their kids, it could become a true investment in our future. These kids will start to funnel millions into the village economy, and no more will our village stars be overlooked by college scouts. . ."
