THURSDAY, MAY 30, 2002 A U.S. Attorney with a background in Indian affairs has been assured that changes to the FBI won't affect investigations on reservations in the Minnesota area. U.S. Attorney Tom Heffelfinger said he was worried about the effects of reorganization on the Minneapolis field office. The office covers reservations in Minnesota, South Dakota and North Dakota. The office handled the Leonard Peltier case. It also distributed the so-called "Pine Ridge Report" in June 2000 that sought to dispel FBI lack of investigation into the deaths of dozens of American Indians. Heffelfinger is the chair of the Department of Justice Native American Issues Subcommittee. Get the Story:
