Research published today in the Proceedings of the National Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences indicates broccoli can fight stomach ulcers and stomach cancer.

The Johns Hopkins University tested the effects of broccoli in the stomach. They found that sulforaphane, a substance created after eating the food, produced ulcer-fighting enzymes.

The researchers also studied mice. Mice pre-treated with sulforaphane had 39 percent fewer tumors after being exposed to a cancer-causing chemical.
