Editorial: Reform tribal government

THURSDAY, MAY 23, 2002 The Grand Forks Herald in an editorial today calls on the Turtle Mountain Ojibwe Tribe of North Dakota to reform its constitution in order to resolve a "messy" situation. The paper cites a dispute between Chairman Richard Monette and the tribal council. Monette is the subject of a removal effort which he claims is the result of an investigation he conducted which reveals financial problems. The paper says some of the acrimony could be resolved by creating a government that has separation of powers. Get the Story:
