Court halts Missouri River orders

THURSDAY, MAY 23, 2002 A federal appeals court on Tuesday stayed three court orders affecting the flow of water on the Missouri River. The decision by the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affects orders federal judges put in place in South Dakota, North Dakota and Nebraska. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is now free to adjust water levels. The three states went to court to prevent the Corps from changing the water levels affecting lakes on the river. Gov. Bill Janklow of South Dakota says the dispute will probably head to the Supreme Court. Get the Story:
