Ariz. gaming bill up for vote again

TUESDAY, MAY 21, 2002

Arizona's gaming tribes have waited for weeks as lawmakers debate gaming compacts they signed with Gov. Jane Hull.

The bill won a preliminary vote in the House yesterday but fell 10 short of the 40 needed to give it final approval. If passed today, it goes onto the Senate, where it could be killed.

If it dies in the Legislature, tribes have drafted a ballot initiative for voters to consider in November.
