Alaska reserve oil estimates revised

The Department of Interior on Thursday released a revised assessment of the oil in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska.

The U.S. Geological Survey estimates that the reserve contains a mean amount of 9.3 billion barrels of oil. This is four times as much oil than previously estimated.

The NPR-A includes Alaska Native-owned lands.
