Native corp loses money on mine

THURSDAY, MAY 16, 2002 An Alaska Native corporation is losing money on the world largest open-pit zinc mine. NANA Regional Corp. posted an $8.7 million loss last year, its first since 1993. This was attributed in part to a poor zinc market, as the corporations royalties from the mine fell by $1.5 million. The mine is located on corporation land. The mine operator is expecting to lose $40 million to $50 million. Get the Story:
