Calif. tribe to finance museum

THURSDAY, MAY 16, 2002 An effort by the Pechanga Band of Luiseño Indians to bail out a failing California museum has drawn complaints. Former board members of the Southwest Museum, which has a respected Indian collection, say they were forced out by others who support the deal with the tribe. One questioned why a deal with another museum wasn't accepted. The board is expected to approve the Pechanga deal this Friday. The arrangement would allow the museum to expand its space and show more artifacts by moving to the tribe's reservation. Get the Story:
