TUESDAY, MAY 14, 2002

A Seneca Nation tribal court on Monday dismissed a lawsuit challenging a vote on a gaming compact with the state of New York.

A group called Senecas Against Casinos opposed today's referendum and said voters weren't given enough information. The court countered and said the vote was the exact means to resolve the group's issues.

About 4,500 tribal members are eligible to vote. The compact would allow the tribe to open up to three casinos, including two located off the reservation.
