Okla. tribe to pay county for land

TUESDAY, MAY 14, 2002 The Absentee Shawnee Tribe has entered into a tax payment agreement with a local county. The tribe will pay Pottawatomie County $10,000 annually for five years to make up for 250 acres being taken off the local tax rolls. The tribe has asked the land to be placed into trust. Current tax on the land is $1,000 a year. The tribe plans to build a travel plaza, casino, hotel and golf course on the site. Get the Story:
