The Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts, like others in New England, will have to wait before its casino dreams are realized.

Following a line taken in other states, the State Legislature has created a commission to study expansion of gaming in the state. The move came after the House yesterday rejected casino proposals offered by Republican lawmakers as a means of making up for budget woes.

An amendment involving the tribe was defeated 139-13. The commission study was approved 101-51, with recommendations due by December.

GOP candidate Mitt Romney says he would seriously consider the tribe's proposal if he is elected governor.
