The Colorado River Indian Tribes are at the heart of a debate over more or less regulation of Indian gaming, The Arizona Republic says today.

Tough stances on sovereignty and seemingly restrictive relations with other governments may have paid off in the past. But with an investigation into alleged corruption at the tribe's casino occurring while a gaming initiative is being pushed, the paper says credibility is at stake.

The paper writes that the tribe prohibited casino employees from talking to Los Angeles police detectives investigating actor Robert Blake for an alleged death attempt against his wife. Bonny Lee Bakely was later murdered by Blake, authorities charge.
