La. Choctaws facing opposition
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2002 Louisiana Gov. Mike Foster continues to defend a compact he signed with the Jena Band of Choctaws. Foster is discounting a university study which claims non-Indian gaming facilities would be hurt if the tribe opened a casino. He says the state would get benefits because the compact shares 15.5 percent of the tribe's revenues with the state and 6 percent with local governments. State attorney general Richard Ieyoub isn't buying. He is going to draft an opinion on whether the compact is legal. Get the Story:
