La. Choctaws facing opposition
FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2002

Louisiana Gov. Mike Foster continues to defend a compact he signed with the Jena Band of Choctaws.

Foster is discounting a university study which claims non-Indian gaming facilities would be hurt if the tribe opened a casino. He says the state would get benefits because the compact shares 15.5 percent of the tribe's revenues with the state and 6 percent with local governments.

State attorney general Richard Ieyoub isn't buying. He is going to draft an opinion on whether the compact is legal.
