Another Native joining national hall
THURSDAY, MARCH 7, 2002

The state of Nevada will be installing a statue of Sarah Winnemucca, a Paiute woman who sought peace among Indians and non-Indians, at the Statuary Hall in Washington, D.C.

Each state gets two representatives. Winnemucca's statue will join former senator Patrick McCarran when it is finally unveiled.

Other states have Native statues. Shoshone Chief Washakie represents the state of Wyoming.

New Mexico has chosen San Juan Pueblo leader Popay, who led the 1680 Pueblo Revolt, as its second statue. North Dakota will be adding Sacajawea.
