Editorial: DOI, Congress can't be trusted to do right
MONDAY, JULY 21, 2003 The Department of Interior and Congress can't be trusted to fix the broken Indian trust fund, The Denver Post says in an editorial. "A solution has to come from the courts, and we just hope the appeals don't consume more decades of time and millions of dollars that belong to Indians," the paper says. The paper agrees with the D.C. Circuit court's decision to vacate contempt charges against Secretary Gale Norton and former Indian affairs aide Neal McCaleb. "That makes sense, but, sadly, the ruling probably is just another footnote in the longest-running story of malfeasance in the history of the federal government," the paper says. Get the Story:
