S.D. asks court to limit tax refunds to Indians

South Dakota attorney general Larry Long asked the state Supreme Court on Thursday to limit refunds owed to tribal members for an illegally paid gas tax.

Members of the Oglala Sioux Tribe paid the tax at a gas station located on the Pine Ridge Reservation. In a previous ruling, the court said $940,000 is due to the tribal customers.

Long says the court needs to clarify whether a statue of limitations applies to the court's ruling. Otherwise, he says the state will be forced to pay millions.
