State threatens Meskwaki compact over dispute

The state of Iowa is threatening to end its gaming compact with the Meskwaki Tribe unless control is returned to the elected tribal council.

The tribe was given 30 days to resolve its leadership dispute. The state considers the elected council to be the legitimate tribal government.

The elected council has resumed control of some tribal finances, the Associated Press reported.
