Martin read about deposition online

Deputy assistant secretary Aurene Martin first learned that she was being called before a court investigator because she read about it on Indianz.Com, according to the transcript of the proceeding.

"I read about it on the Internet," Martin said in response to a question posed by special master Alan Balaran.

"Which website? That's the way I get all my information," responded Balaran.

"The Indianz.com website," Martin replied.

Martin testified on December 13 about Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb's e-mail habits. She said she was not "not entirely" surprised to learn that she was being deposed.

"I assumed that you had -- since you had deposed Mr. McCaleb and [administrative assistant] Jean [Maybee], and that I had some part in the e-mail disclosure, that you would probably want to speak with me," she testified.

Balaran questioned Martin as part of his investigation into McCaleb's loss of government e-mails. A report is forthcoming.
