Conn. tribe awaits recognition ruling
WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 4, 2002 The Schaghticoke Tribal Nation of Connecticut has waited at least 30 years to hear from the federal government about its federal status. An answer is expected later this week. The tribe is recognized by the state and has a state reservation in western Connecticut. There are about 300 members. Outgoing Assistant Secretary Neal McCaleb is under court order to deliver a preliminary decision for the tribe. The ruling will trigger a public comment period. A final answer could come within a year. Get the Story:
