Bush wants to speed judicial nominees

President Bush on Wednesday proposed changing how judicial nominees are picked and approved.

Bush wants to change Senate rules by forcing a vote within 180 days of a nomination. Democrats immediately slammed the idea because they said they weren't consulted.

Bush also wants to reduce vacancies on the federal bench. He is recommending federal judges give notice of at least one year when they plan to retire.
