State wants tribe to pay gas tax
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 15, 2002

The state of South Dakota is threatening to revoke the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe's fuel-importer license for not paying a state tax.

The state claims the tribe owes $4,645.78. The tribe counters that its company primarily sells to tribal members and tribal agencies.

Revenue Secretary Gary Viken has scheduled a formal hearing on the issue.
