BIA renews $19.5M TAAMS development contract
Friday, December 12, 2003

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has signed a $19.5 million contract to continue development of the Trust Asset and Accounting Management System (TAAMS) , CGI Group Inc. announced today.

CGI (http://www.cgi.com) will handle development of the package, which was designed to bring the management of trust assets into the 21st century. But numerous delays and problems have plagued the effort since 1998. The BIA has spent about $40 million on the project, not including the renewed contract.

During a session at the National Congress of American Indians (NCAI) last month, Daryll LaCounte, a BIA trust reform specialist, said the contract will be used to develop a new version of the TAAMS title module. Four BIA locations -- Billings, Eastern Oklahoma, Anadarko and Alaska -- will convert from TAAMS 1 to TAAMS 2, the new version.

Additionally, the BIA will upgrade the Land Records Information System (LRIS), a legacy system, to TAAMS 2, LaCounte said.
